JEAN PAUL GAULTIER SPRING/SUMMER 2010 COUTURE REPORT

It seems that Jean Paul Gaultier’s couture show took place in Paris only physically. The famous designer offered his audience a trip they will never forget.

Gaultier showcased an exotic, out of this world and into a fairy tale land couture show. The collection was inspired by historical Aztecs, blood-thirsty pirates, topped with a hint of armory. One might argue that Jack Sparrow officially had his fashion moment. Gaultier left little to the viewer’s imagination, giving an opportunity to enjoy excessive visual pleasure.

Each ensemble showed a different story - all colourful, with dominating browns, greens and blues. That resulted in a hot jewellery trend, turquoise jewellery, bringing summer one step closer.

The show while being full of artistic expressionism managed to be on trend with heavy denim, corsetry, working white as well as statement accessories. Only Gaultier took it further, as his accessories formed the piece itself, for example a heavy medieval armory shoulder was a part of a deep blue embellished ensemble.

The make up was also fairytale-esque. Forget smoky black eyes, the models wore shades of violets, blues, greens and yellows with their lips stressed with hues of gold and brown. The hair was beyond avant garde, acting as if it was a headpiece itself or at times covered by humongous pirate-like hats.

Truly inspiring, Gaultier has proved to all the critics that fashion is indeed not only a form of art, but a highly esthetical form of art. Magnifique!
