BACK TO BROGUES

Stepping out of the eighties and back into twenty-first century the no longer ‘just a gentleman’s shoe’ but a pair of classy flats are lacing their way onto the feet of todays teen and adult fashion icons. The likes of Agyness Deyn, Alexa Chung and the Geldof sisters are all completing their tom-boyish looks with brogue shoes. However there seems to be a knack that they all have in order to make the shoes look pretty and girly rather than masculine. Teamed with floral prints, or a smock dress causes these ‘meant for males’ shoes to look surprisingly feminine. Whether high heeled or flat, inspired by the preppy Gossip Girl classroom or the back streets of Shoreditch, sported by Wintour or Chung, this Oxford lace up is this Summer’s replacement for the Winehouse ballet shoe trend. Brouges are this season’s ‘it’ pair of shoes and taking into consideration their heavy leather hard wearing surface this shoe is going to stick around for as long as possible...until it gets the boot! Get the look with our Patent Tan Laced Brogues / Flat Shoes at the patent finish adds a modern twist and at £29.99 you had better snap them up quick before our cyber shelves empty! ![]() |
Its finally that time of year again, gone are the days of UGG snow boots and cowboy boots, summer is here! Well the weather is still a little unpredictable at the moment but it’s definitely time to rummage through your summer wardrobe and dust of your fashionable gladiator shoes. I can’t quite recall when they came into fashion but boy am I grateful; I just couldn’t imagine a summer without them now. Which other shoes are acceptable to wear on a night out teamed with a Maxi, or with denim shorts at a festival! Flip flops are too causal and wedges are too high. Gladiator shoes are just cool, thats the best way to sum them up. Not only do they keep your feet ‘cool’ - excuse the pun but their just like really funky and sexy at the same time! Teamed with a pedicure you can’t really go wrong. Like Victoria Beckham I’m a big believer in high heel shoes, but gladiator sandals almost belong to the same family, they make your legs look great, you can have them in all different styles and they add a bit of glam to any outfit. So for three whole months my feet will see nothing else, get out there and build your collection they will never go out of style and you will wear them over and over again; trust me. This summer how about teaming gold gladiators with a khaki maxi dress, bangles and beach hair? Its effortless, its in trend with the safari craze and looks fabulous with a tan. Get the look nailed! GET LOW WITH THIS SEASONS MID HEEL SHOE TREND
![]() |
Who could have thought that something that most fashionistas would classify as sooo nineties would make a comeback with a bang. This summer sees the revival of the low heel, otherwise known as the kitten heel. When thinking about mid heeled shoes, one thing surely comes to mind - it simply screams comfort. While we are all used to seeing models walking down the catwalk in towering high heels (and at times falling over), this season designers put the models in much more convenient alternatives. Chloe came up with what Vogue refers to as “the answer to the gladiator sandal - perfect for toughening-up pretty dresses”. This new version of the summer sandal has straps around the foot, rather than the straight buckling seen in Spring/Summer 2009. But it’s not only heels the designers are interested in - catwalk inspired wedges will never get out of the summer fashion scene. This season it’s not the skyscraper heels you’ll be willing to wear, instead opt for a medium height wedge heel. If you like to keep things casual, go for the wedges from the Calvin Klein Collection. Simple, t-bar sandals will keep you comfortable throughout the day not to mention give you an extra three inches. When towering heels are too high and flat shoes are too low, the mid heel is just perfectly appropriate. Of course, they might not be the perfect height when worn as eveningwear, but for a casual, everyday alternative to pumps - the low heel is a great idea. Check out the gorge finds: Brown mid heel woven design wedges for £22.00, Tan Cowboy Mid Heel High-Top Ankle Boots for £19.99 and Brown Buckle Design Shoe-Boot With Wooden Heel for £24.00. GIVE YOUR FEET A BREAK WITH FAB MID HEEL SHOES
![]() |
With London Fashion Week just gone we’ve seen a whole lot of high heels, both on and off the catwalk. At this time of year, more than ever, models, celebrities, the press and fashion hot shots alike step out in their highest skyscraper heels. Teamed with statement designer handbag and dark sunglasses, they make up the mandatory Fashion Week uniform. But just how wearable are these beautiful objects of desire, and how many models are dying to scream out in pain after a show? Journalist Caitlin Moran set out to answer these questions in a recent article for The Times and find out ‘what happens when a real woman wears catwalk clothes?’ After sampling footwear from the likes of Versace and Gucci her analysis was, ‘unbelievably painful’ and the solution: ‘WE NEED TO GO ON STRIKE FOR SHOES THAT ARE BEAUTIFUL, BUT ALSO ACTUALLY USEABLE AS SHOES.’ We love to see fashion pushing the boundaries and the late Alexander McQueen was certainly one to do that, most notably with the recent, controversial creation; the Armadillo shoe. Amazing, but where would you wear them? If you’re looking for a shoe that ticks all the fashion boxes but doesn’t leave your feet in tatters, our Brown Mid Heel Woven Design Wedges, £22.00, may be the answer. Forget no pain, no gain. Mid heels may be the compromise between fashion and comfort we’re looking for. Stella McCartney seemed to think so, with mid-height, cork effect wedges making an appearance in her latest collection. Not one to do heels by halves is the ever elegant Christian Louboutin, but he too has embraced the wedge for Spring/Summer with similar details, such as brown straps and a rope effect. So, why not give your feet a well-deserved break. To get the look nailed team your Brown Mid Heel Woven Design Wedges with some khaki shorts or a denim skirt, á la Stella McCartney. NEW SHOE TREND: PEEP-TOES
![]() |
We are all suckers for shoes, and when it comes to the latest trends we want our feet to have the best of the best. New shoes give you that indescribable feeling, and an extra spring in your step. They breathe new life into a tired, old outfit and make you feel on top of the world. Any girl will agree, and admit to wearing her new heels around the house, just because she can’t wait. So because we know how the thrill of a new pair of shoes feels, and want our feet to be at the height of fashion, we are constantly on the lookout for the latest in footwear. With Spring on the way, we want something fresh to see us into the new season. It is the peep-toe that does just that. Lace-up, peep toe, ankle boots are all over the high street, and is fashion’s way of saying, ‘it might still be cold out, but we’re ready for Spring/Summer’. We may not be quite ready to bring out the gladiator sandals just yet, but our toes are peeping out to say hello. This style makes for a more elegant look and moves away from the heavy boots of Winter. Designers like Christian Louboutin and Dolce & Gabbana prove that the peep-toe is the shoe style of the moment with metallic, leather peep-toe pumps and lace and mesh peep-toe booties. If shoes are your only vice and this trend sounds dangerously tempting, we have just the thing to push you over the edge. Our Grey Strappy Multi-Colour Peep-Toe Sandals, £26.00, embrace those soft, neutral colours seen on the catwalks at present and will add some elegance into your wardrobe. The flowing lines of the strap and zip feature make for wonderful details and with so many ornate shoe designs around, it is the details that really stand out. To get the look nailed, team your Grey Strappy Multi-Colour Peep-Toe Sandals with some skinny, acid-wash jeans or a more feminine, flowing dress. THE FALL OF THE HIGH HEEL?
![]() |
When the average heel high on Bond Street reached six inches, something had to change. And it’s no wonder that the new Spring/Summer 2010 collection has taken a backlash against the towering stiletto. Although we are all victims to the elaborate high-heel, this season we are being told that boring can be good - but will we listen? From flat walking sandals to chunky clogs, the likes of Chanel, Prada and even Jimmy Choo have abandoned to ever growing stiletto and created a new season of sensible, subtle and comfortable shoes. But is that really what we want? I’m sure we can all agree that when Alexander McQueen started churning out 12 inch heels, a line had been crossed, but is this really going to be the season where we turn our backs on our once-beloved towering heels in exchange for chunky clogs and kitten heels our mums would wear? Unfortunately I think not. We may be being kind to our feet by keeping them flat on the floor, but isn’t the old saying “no pain no gain”? And what makes a woman feel more confident than a pair of stunning stilettos teamed with a classic LBD? Not sandals! Maybe this trend will catch on for daytime attire and the women on Bond Street can give their feet a rest, but the killer high heel has, and will always be the ultimate confidence booster for women all over the world, and will take more than one season of ‘boring’ flats to die! WELLINGTON BOOTS FOR WINTER
![]() |
Now the snow has fallen heavily and severe weather conditions cause havoc across the country, there’s only one style of footwear you’ll need: wellies. Good old Wellington boots were not always the height of fashion and were mostly worn by little kids on rainy days and farmers. However, the summer festival phenomenon changed all that. Come rain, mud or shine wellies are the footwear of choice at Glastonbury, V, Bestival and the like. Traditional outdoor brand Hunter became the name of choice and can be seen on many a festival-goer, including the celebs. However, for those of you who have tucked your Wellingtons away for the Winter, you may have to think again. With inches of snow settling at our feet, wellies are our only hope. So if you really have to leave the house, do so in our Khaki Green Wellington Boots, £19.99. They’re comfortable, durable and we’ll send them right to your door. For those of you who go for more funky styles our Pink Floral Design Wellington Boots, £22.99 will be perfect. If you’re worried that wellies are more function than fashion; fear not. Marni have a great pair of rubber and leather Wellingtons and Marc by Marc Jacobs are in on the trend too, with plum coloured boots with on-trend trompe l'oeil laces print. Jimmy Choo loves wellies so much he designed an embossed croc version for Hunter. So what are you waiting for? Get the look nailed and go and have some fun in the snow. WELLINGTON BOOTS - STYLISHLY PREPARED FOR ANYTHING
![]() |
With the weather being as unpredictable as it is at the moment, what with the mix of snow, rain and wind we have endured, it is necessary to step up precautions. Unlike some, there is not a pair of wellies in my cupboard on standby for these sticky situations. Consequently the hunt for a simple, yet stylish pair has begun. When it comes to something as practical as wellies, a minimal looking pair is best, so make like Kate Moss, and stick to a boot of one colour, as they will have to go with numerous clothing combinations. A personal favourite of mine is the Khaki Green Wellington Boots at £19.99, which are as chic as anything. If you were to grab them now, they would be a brilliant asset when summer comes around and the festival season hits. The khaki is neutral and works well with any colour scheme and the boots also feature a non-slip sole to keep you stable on those slippery surfaces. Why not pair your wellies with some thick knee high socks to ensure comfort and fabulousness at all times. If you like these, why not check out the Dunlop Classic Black Wellington Boots for £22.00, which also come in khaki green as well. If you are not a believer in less is more, maybe our pretty Pink Floral Design Wellington Boots, £22.99, will take your fancy instead, or even our Black and Grey Checked Glossy Wellington Boots, £22.99. Don’t forget to wrap up warm! By Amy Shiels - Product Features Writer for A-SHU.CO.UK. |
FASHION AND FUNCTION: UGG STYLE BOOTS

It’s that time of year again; when snow falls and the nation comes to a standstill. Many people have already found themselves stranded at train stations, stuck on motorways and slipping and sliding on their way to work. Wherever you find yourselves over the Winter months, don’t get caught out. Stay cozy and on trend with our Beige Sheepskin and Fur Style Lined Snow Boots, £24.00, or Black Sheepskin Style Lined Snow Boots, £18.00. The textured and non-slip style soles of these boots mean you’ll be safe walking the icy streets and won’t have to worry about watching your step. The sheepskin and fur style lining will keep your toes toasty and a smile on your face. They’re perfect for slipping on for the journey to and from work so you don’t have to battle with high heels in the cold or snow. They’re versatile too, with the option of folding down the top for two alternative looks. Not only are they super practical, these boots are also the height of Winter fashion. Finally, fashion we can function in! The UGG boot style has been popular for many years, and it looks like it’s here to stay. Originally worn in Australia, UGG’s sheepskin boots first took off in California where they became popular with surfers. They then reached New York City and are now a famous luxury footwear brand known all over the world. A CLOGGING NEXT SEASON SHOE TREND
![]() |
There were tones of unexpected shoe trends during the Spring/Summer 2010 fashion shows. One of them is the totally unforeseen revival of… clogs. Indeed. Some of these shoes were actually made for everyday use back in the days. All of them were made entirely from wood, or just had wooden soles. Nevertheless, the main purpose of clogs was dancing. This sort of dancing is called clogging - don’t confuse it with tap dancing, although the idea is quite similar. It all began when mill workers started entertaining themselves by dancing in these wooden shoes until it became a favourite past time in England in the nineteenth century, according to Clogger.eu. Leave it to Vera Wang to recreate the clog into… sexy biker shoes! Wear these with your favourite leather jacket, black jeggins and a skull-printed top. Accessories? Add studs and chunky metal chains to make the look even more dramatic. Lagerfeld for Chanel has also underlined that clogs are unavoidable, but in a more feminine way. Summery clog inspired shoes were seen throughout his collection and they unexpectedly scored the collection dozens of style points. Designers just made clogs chic; you might be thinking when to invest in your own pair. When both Lagerfeld and Vera Wang say clogs are a do - they are bound to be hot on the agenda for the next season. By Edita Lozovska - Fashion Writer for A-SHU.CO.UK. |
WOMENS SHOES - KEEP THOSE FEET SNUG THIS WINTER WITH SOME UGG-TASTIC BOOTS

When the chill of Winter hits, there is one form of footwear that my feet crave. Not wellies, brogues or even boots, but Uggs. You just cannot beat the warmth, comfort and luxury of them. They are my absolute necessity for this time of year.
So they’re not sexy and seductive like heels, but they are brilliant for those days when you just need to have that laid back and relaxed vibe. Endless celebrities agree. WALK IN COMFORT - THE WEDGE TREND IS BACK
![]() |
This has to be said: while everyone loves stilettos, not everyone can pull them off… And then man created wedges… Halleluiah! The comfy wedges are a good alternative for the skyscraper heel - they make you look tall and are less painful. Your feet perhaps won’t look as sharp and in your face - but everyone will admit, having lovely long legs has always been an attribute to die for. Like it black? Go for the elegant over-the-knee style, teamed up with an understated dress for the ultimate office chic. Don’t think that coal is your colour? This season a brown suede wedge is simply a must have - perfect with jeans, shorts, skirts - and the list goes on. According to Vogue, it never fails to create a cowboy look as well: “Brown suede looks divine with Autumn/Winter 2009-10’s country mood: a cord jacket and pale jeans topped with a Maison Michel fedora.” So wedges aren’t only signaling Summer’s comfy trend - they are here to stay all year around and, looking at the designs of Cesare Paciotti, they can make your feet pulsate with fierceness. If you want the ultimate comfort and maximal femininity, go for wedges this A/W - they, equally as stilettos, will keep those heads turning! By Edita Lozovska - Fashion Writer for A-SHU.CO.UK. |
WOMENS FOOTWEAR FASHION - WONDER WEDGES
![]() |
Wedges are a woman’s answer to short legs and high heels; with a heel with so much support, the ease of walking is phenomenal and offers a comfortable alternative to those who desire a little height to boost their morale (or simply just for fashion). As ever, wedges remain popular but this year the desire for the solid shoe goes a little further with the ‘wedge boot’. It is very rare that fashion and practicality go hand in hand but with this: it is just that. Consequently, such a rare occasion should not be ignored. The wedge boot is simply everywhere this season, from the catwalk to the high street and is quoted by Vogue as allowing women to ‘remain chic in Winter months’. The variety really is endless with wedge boots reaching everywhere from the ankle to calves and even the knee and in a variety of materials. You really can play with this accessory and alter your look, for a chunky rock look, team sculptural shoe wedge boots with leggings and a long tee, for a more relaxed autumnal day look wear tan high boots with a beige cardi, jumper and jeans. You really can’t go wrong and the best thing is to keep experimenting! To get your look nailed, team your boots with some seasonal gloves such as our Taupe Pom Pom 2-in-1 Fingerless Mittens at £4.49 or our Purple Pompom Cable Knit Peaked Hat at £7.99. ALEXANDER MCQUEEN SHOES - IS THE ARMADILLO WEARABLE?
![]() |
The discussion continues about Alexander McQueen’s S/S 2010 collection, concentrating mainly on one item, or one pair to be exact - the armadillos. Photos of these extraordinary shoes are plastered all other the internet with users saying that they thought these ankle boots were “horribly disgusting”; whilst other blog commentators admitted they would “sell the soul and body to Alexander McQueen just to have a pair”. So is it a fashion no-no or a go-ahead? Talk about high heels! The British Vogue team admitted on their blog that they “couldn’t resist giving them a whirl, but miserably failed to make it further than the Vogue fashion cupboard.” The question is then, how did the models walk in those during the McQueen S/S 2010 show? Moments from the past show us that shoes have never been overly comfortable, with the infamous Naomi Campbell’s fall during Vivienne Westwood's show in 1993. So do fashionistas blindly accept fashion as it is, or actually speak their minds and say no to impossible pieces? One might argue that fashion, undeniably haute couture, is a form of art, which must be embraced and appreciated for its innovativeness and beauty. Others may argue that this is one more apparent designer maneuver to underline his absolute freedom of expression. However, are one’s ideas and visions always wearable? According to Lady Gaga they are. In her newest video, “Bad Romance”, she sports a fully sequined outfit with a pair of armadillo look-alikes. We don’t see her walking in them a lot, but sitting and posing? - yes. In fashion, nothing is impossible, whilst one is regarding the shoes as “tasteless”, others will start a trend - and who knows how futuristic the next couture collections might be. You might end up wearing them yourself. McQueen’s point exactly. By Edita Lozovska - Fashion Writer for A-SHU.CO.UK. |

I don’t know about you but when it comes to Winter we are almost limited to wearing long skirts or trousers most of the time. With such an out burst of sequined dresses and other fantastic short skirts ending just above your knees, it is not easy to wear a studded peep toe ankle boot. Not saying that you should not invest in peep toe boots obviously, you can team them up with harem pants or skinny jeans. But that is not the point. The point is if you still want to show of your pins without having goose bumps caused by the chills coming from your fishnet tights, then why not opt for the thigh high boots? Step into the new season and battle the Winter mists with the thigh high boots. In celebville, Jennifer Lopez works her pair of Louboutins in her monochrome dress and Miley Cyrus is seen prancing around in her thigh high boots in a sparkly 1960’s shift dress. Remember in The Devil Wears Prada when Andy Sach (Anne Hathaway) rolled up in Chanel thigh high boots…? (Sighs of admiration). So hurry up fashionistas’ don’t be too slow to buy into the trend. Slip on our Black Patent Knee High Stiletto Boots (also available in grey) on sale, was £45.99 now £25.99 to get the look nailed. For a snuggling fit and easy removal, these boots have a full length zip. The ruffle design on the boots is bang on trend. Not forgetting the metallic shine they posses means you can team them with all that sparkles. By Samantha Chidenga - Product Features Writer for A-SHU.CO.UK. |
