WHEELIE HEELS - GRAPHICALLY DESIGNED HIGH HEEL SHOES

Share / Bookmark

So we have basically tried all the possible kind of shoes this past year. We went from boots, to pumps, to platform high heels to wedges. But we haven’t seen it all this year. If you are looking for a fine pair of heels that keep detail as their priority then you will be fascinated with the new range of shoes that were present at the AW 2012-13 catwalks.

Ranging from filigree cages that were beautifully wrapped up in a pair of stilettos by Ralph Lauren, to vintage looking prints that were embedded on wooden heels by Rochas, almost all styles carried off the designed filled heels on the catwalk. According to Vogue, new-comer Joanne Stoker’s designs were inspired by stain glass windows that she spotted during her travels.

They say fashion is art and these printed heels define it. These kinds of heels are the epitome of detail and they reflect fine detailed craftsmanship by their respective designers. Since they are loud enough to grab attention by themselves, just strap them on a pair of jeans or leggings and you would be ready to strut the high-street in style. It’s just simplicity at its best!

Have you always dreamt of walking in Carrie Bradshaw’s Manolo Balhnik shoes? Well your dream is about to become reality, and not by winning the lottery!

How? The iconic shoe designer is said to be considering high street collaboration only if it was an exciting experience he reveals to British Vogue: ‘"If someone asked me to do high street and I really liked it, then why not? But it would have to be a challenge, I don't just want to do it for commerce or for business, I've never really been into money that way. But if it was something exciting and I could really collaborate with someone marvellous then yes, of course."

After Manolo Blahnik’s illustrations being displayed at London Fashion Week earlier this February is it now these news, that we love, that are once again bringing the designer closer to his fans!

That said, no further details have been unveiled yet, but we can already smell a fabulous and affordable collection and I can see myself getting excited by the idea of owning one of the Spanish born designer’s gorgeous creations!

CELEBRITIES NEW LOVE - GIUSEPPE ZANOTTI SHOES

Might it be that Christian Louboutin’s unprecedented reign over celebrities’ hearts (at least when it comes to shoes) is over? Do all the relentless fashionistas have a new favourite to embellish their delicate feet with breathtaking sky-high stiletto heels?

Appears so, after we spotted some of our favourite starlets walking around in Giuseppe Zanotti creations which, we have to admit, look stunning and, rumor has it, are extremely comfortable too!

Lucy Hale from Pretty Little Liars and singer and actress Vanessa Hudgens were spotted wearing similar models, only Lucy went for classic and elegant black while Vanessa preferred maize yellow to go with her light dress.

But don’t get fooled! The Italian designer might be famous for the high heels we often see on the red carpet, but he also offers a great range of flat shoes. How about Rihanna’s black high-top sneakers with silver studs on the sides that compliment her rock-chick look?

Now we know that a pair of super trendy Zanottis is a bit pricy, but - combine it with a stylish clutch bag - and you get a long-term investment you wouldn’t regret!

HEELS OR TRAINERS?

Share / Bookmark

Are you living your happily-ever-after romance story or are you still on the look for Prince Charming on a white horse (although we also wouldn’t mind a Mercedes or a BMV)? Whatever the situation, St Valentine’s Day is the time of the year when every Cinderella wants to be a princess, if just for a night. No matter how tired, broke or stuck in everyday problems, February 14th makes us all feel on top of the world.

No one ever tells you, however, how stressed you feel just a day before, when you’re trying to find that favourite top of yours or your shoe heel brakes or, God forbid, you brake a nail. I say, we should be thankful St Valentine’s happens just once in a year!

There are, however, some couples who seem to be effortless, not just on February 14th or in the spotlights, but every day of the year. Let’s sneak a peek in the wardrobe of my personal favourites - Portia De Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres.

Ellen is known for her love of man clothing. Her style is timeless, simple and clean, but also very tricky to master, as it requires a nose for detail. It’s very hard not to be boring with such classic looks, but she knows how to add a personal touch to every outfit and never goes wrong with the accessories. When it comes to shoes - forget about high heels, her signature style are white trainers (indeed, if anyone could pull off white footwear, that’s Ellen).

Arrested Development star Portia De Rossi creates the perfect contrast. The Australian actress prefers very feminine wear - dresses, heels and girly accessories. Her signature look are her long golden locks which she sometimes wears up.

Which style do you prefer?

1) The cap-toe-heel: I am sure you have seen these around in stores, but were wondering why you should own a pair. Well, these pairs of heels look very elegant and formal and make almost anything look officially sexy… if you get what I mean. Pair them with that corporate pencil skirt and at an office-dinner you will look chic as well as smart!

2) Metallic shoes: Bling-a-ling! Metallic shoes keep going in and out of fashion, so it is always good to just have them in that ever-so-dreamy walk-in shoe closet. They can be oxford shoes, peep-toe-heels or even metallic based platform pumps.

3) T-strap-heels: These shoes were famous in the 20’s and made every girl look like a ballerina from Swan Lake. Initially associated with ballroom dancing, these shoes are the epitome of class with comfort. If you want to go vintage then you definitely need to own a pair of these. The shoes are now produced to look elegantly classic with a twist of modern fashion.

4) Slippers: Comfort! Comfort! Comfort! These slippers are probably one of the most comfortable pairs of flat, closed pairs of shoes one can own. Usually worn on a more casual basis, slippers come in different designs so no one said you can’t jazz up your semi-formal attire.

Men will never understand our constant need of n numbers of shoes and heels, and neither will we ever be able to explain to them. Our dream of a walk-in shoe closet will always be hanging over our heads and owning almost every designed pair there is will definitely get us closer it. After all, he would have no choice but to make space in the house for all your shoes, won’t he?

ACCESSORISE YOUR DREAM SHOE-CLOSET WITH DIFFERENT TYPES OF BOOTS

Share / Bookmark

These boots were definitely made for walking and looking glamorous at the same time, and when you own a pair of each from the boots family tree, be ready to walk the talk with each of them.

1) The Rider - Probably the most common of the lot for those cold winter days. These boots are usually made from leather or suede and can literally be worn on anything, from skirts to trousers. These beautiful puppies make anything you wear look smart, provided they’re not riding up to your thigh (then you’d have to reconsider your clothes to fit the boots).

2) The Western - Lunches or dinner parties, these boots scream glam. These boots are the ones that have a slight heel and mostly end at your ankle - if not slightly higher. More for a semi-formal look the western boots give you the sense of style definitely from another era. These bad boys include the cowboy styled boots inspired from those oh so daring Clint Eastwood movies.

3) The Chelsea - More of a casual based boot, Chelsea boots are those that lie below your ankle. These boots are very similar to The Western, however they lack the touch of the countryside that the latter does. Like other boots these come in different heel sizes, mainly a slightly stocky heel kind.

4) The Moto - The name says it all. The biker chick look is one that never goes out of style. These leather boots scream rebellion and give you a tough ‘don’t-mess-with-me’ look. These moto boots are usually studded around the heel of the shoe or the toes, giving it a tougher look. The Moto are kind of bulky and do not go with everything in your closet, however they do come in different heel shapes as well, ranging from block to stiletto to wedge heels.

5) The Wedge - The most loved shoe of all for a sexy yet comfortable night out. The pair of boots that actually make anything you wear look chic. Mostly found as ankle high, these kind also go up to the knee. Whether it may be lace-ups or buckled or even zipped, these kinds of boots do not let you down.

Can fashion be defined as a repetitive cycle?

We might be able to argue with this theory, however the Victoria & Albert Museum in London clearly states yes bringing together iconic designers and unforgettable looks from the eighties. We can’t help it thinking about John Galliano and Vivienne Westwood when we say eighties style. Indeed, 85 outfits by the most influential designers including Westwood and Galliano will showcased during the exhibition, with an entire floor reserved to designers who created unique pieces inspired by London’s nightlife, while at the mezzanine you will be able to contemplate the clubbing outfits worn back then divided into different categories: from Goth to New Romantics!

Satisfying everyone’s tastes and curiosities the exhibition aims to concentrate on the powerful impact the eighties London nightlife and clubs had on the fashion world locally and internationally!

Whether you have been part of the 80’s party wave or whether you have heard so many stories, summer 2013 will definitely be a great way to commemorate or see for yourselves what the eighties actually felt like. So put on your double decker’s shoes, your black leather biker jacket and get ready for an ultimate experience starting July 10th at the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Anything exciting to look forward to this winter? How about we look back instead, as we usually do when we are in the search of a “new” hot clothing trend? Particularly, let’s sneak a peek in the 90s – the era of the mini skirt, the high waist and denim (lots of denim).

The 90s also introduced us to another beloved trend that is now back on the shelves, namely, the Mary Jane shoes.

The Mary Jane pumps are characterised by a chunky heel or a platform with a one thin strap and a rounded toebox. Usually worn with knee-high socks or pantyhose to add an edge to your style, the Mary Janes are a must-have this winter.

And because they are such a classic shoe, you are allowed to experiment with the texture and colour. Choose your fashion statement - maybe cobalt blue or, perhaps, some platinum silver decorations or floral elements? Dress to impress this season!

It has been announced the 20-years old artist will be the face for Adidas NEO new label along with her partner Justin Bieber, in addition to the feminine and quirky touch she will be adding to the brand through her design collaboration.

It is surely an interesting twist for the footwear brand, reinventing the brand’s signature and creating a line of trainers and sportswear for a younger target market, with fresh colors, prints and a hipster ‘Gomez/Beiber’ kind of feel.

Following the seasonal artists/brands collaborations we have been witnessing lately, it seems like this one will last a little bit longer than a season or two! In fact, the partnership between the pop star and the brand will last for three year, during which Selena will be the face for all the brand’s NEO campaigns and adverts.

This exciting yet intriguing collaboration will start in February 2013, with the launch of the NEO line! STOCKY HEELS IS THE NEW SHOE TREND

Share / Bookmark

I am a passionate fashionista, but I admit it – there are some trends that I like to admire from afar (for some reason leather outfits have never been my thing, for example).

However, this new shoe trend doesn't fall into that category. There are sometimes items that get you by the first sight and you know they are going to end up in your wardrobe. For me, this is the case with stocky high heels.

From Chanel to Valentino - everyone seems to be embrasing the new fashionable must-haves. Now they are off the catwalk and right on the streets, so why not get a pair of chich temptations that you can actually walk in?

Statistics show that English ladies wear the highest heels in Europe, but I can assure you this is about to change. And I will be one of the first to take advantage of the new trend – let's say I'll be more than happy to spend those 10 pounds I give for a cab because I can't walk those 5 blocks on a new handbag, or that I won't have to carry around my old flats everywhere and change in elevators or on the train, just to make a good impression.

If you are also a fan of this new trend, there's only one last thing to make sure you get right - colour. Since the weather is getting from bad to worse, I would recommend a few splashes of bright colour to make the grey city scene more fun. So go for the pinks, ladies!!!

FOOTWEAR TRENDS AUTUMN WINTER 2012/2013

Share / Bookmark

Ladies, variety is the word of the season when it comes to footwear. From high heels to flat shoes to boots, I’ve made the list of the top footwear trends just for you.

This season, be prepared to toss out the stilettos and replace them with a chunkier sort of high heels. Although I’ve always been a fan of the thin heel, I have to admit that I find myself welcoming the change. With a chunkier heel, available in a variety of heights, including a more vintage-looking, lower heel, walking to work is rendered that much more comfortable. If you desire a more retro glam look, opt for a higher heel. However, while I do enjoy a heftier heel, I’m a sucker for the classic pumps, which perfectly suit a workday’s outfit. For these heels, we’re yearning for a pointed or almond-shaped toe.

In terms of flat shoes, I’ve scouted out two main trends. The first - men’s smoking slippers - could already be spotted during the cooler summer days. If you choose to sport these flats, opt for an outfit made of lush materials, such as suede or velvet, and rich, darker colours. The cap to flat is another emerging trend of the season. A textured cap toe, adorned with rhinestones or spikes, adds a bit of originality.

Now, with the colder weather kicking in, I’m delighted to announce that the time has come to talk about boots. Although Julia Roberts has just celebrated her 45th birthday - and we wish her a good year ahead - this season is not about pulling a Pretty Woman and wearing black, thigh-heel boots. On the contrary, ankle boots are hot this year, whether appearing in a casual or dressier style. When it comes to choosing your ankle boots, the trends this season fit into three main categories: Western, “Beatle-esque” and motorcycle-inspired. Boots with a fringe on them have also popped up as a sub-trend.

As for colour, a red shade and leopard print represent the top trends for autumn 2012. Other seasonal hues include royal blue, dark turquoise and purple. Glitter is also a re-emerging fave.

All in all, autumn 2012 is about looking sexy, while keeping it elegant. Good luck with the shoe-buying!

FALL 2012/WINTER 2013 ALL ABOUT SHOES

Share / Bookmark

It’s time to throw yourself out there and take risks with your footwear. Whether it’s through clashing colours, jewels or punk vibrations, we’re talking about making bold statements this season.  Below, I’m going to list the three major trends to keep an eye out for.

As the first item on my list, two-toned heels represent a must-have of the season. Designers, such as Stella McCartney and Miuccia Prada, have decided to no longer limit themselves to the old one colour per shoe motto, introducing a colour-blocking trend to this season’s fashion scene. You can now select from a wide range of reds, blues, greens and why not even yellows, which contrast with a thick sole of a different tone. Some brands, such as Fendi and Balenciaga, have even mixed three colours within a single pair of their deigns. To maintain a sophisticated look, why not also try matching these striking pumps with our Tan Hermes Birkin Style Leather Effect Holdall Handbag With Long Strap, for only £26.99? Paired with a tailored suit, this would represent the perfect workday outfit.

In addition, the time to finally brush up on your reading about the lifestyle of the French royal court has arrived, as this fashion season is praising footwear fir for a queen at Versailles. From crystals to pearls to flakes of gold, the accent is placed on ornamentation. For example, Dolce & Gabbana has created a romantic pair of platform high heel shoes, highly decorated with pastel pink, porcelain roses. In short, baroque is the new ‘in’ fashion era to look to for inspiration.

With the colder weather setting in, it’s only natural that the last key trend of the season be boots. This time around, we’re wearing them just below the knee, with a preference for black leather. The style adopts a slight punkish attitude, especially evident in Lazaro Hernandez’ and Jack McCollough’s Doc-Martens-style design for Proenza Schouler. Alexander Wang also opted for the punk tendency, producing a pair of fine leather peep toes.

So, you see? This fall/winter season is all about being original. Take advantage of the many selection of designs and decorations to let your own personality seep through. Most importantly, have fun – not every fashion season allows you to go a little crazy!

SHOES FASHION - CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN HAS MADE FAIRYTALES COME TRUE

Share / Bookmark

Cinderella’s glass slippers have always been shoes that were made from dreams. It’s an iconic pair of footwear that represents fairytales and happily ever afters. However, it’s not a fantasy anymore as shoe legend, Christian Louboutin has reworked the classic high heels and has given it a modern makeover! The shoes were created to celebrate the rerelease of the Diamond Edition of Cinderella on Blu-Ray and DVD in October.

The crystal-encrusted shoes are not made from glass (can you imagine the blisters?) but are instead made with a much friendlier material of white lace. The heels features the iconic red soles, are 120 cm high and covered with Swarovski crystals and crystal embellished butterflies. Talk about a sparkle with each step!

When asked about the character, the famous shoe designer stated "Cinderella is not only an iconic character when it comes to beauty, grace and fairy tale love but also shoes. Her character and her story dictated the design to me; it was all there in the pages and the words of this tale. "The slipper is the magic wand of transformation, which conjures confidence, beauty and love," said Louboutin. "The dream is a major factor in my language of design. There are no limits in the world of fantasy and there is always a happily ever after."

The limited-edition launch of the open-toe shoes was unveiled during Paris Couture Fashion Week. Only 20 will be made of which will all be given away as competitions in various countries so unfortunately, these shoes can’t be bought (not that I can afford to)!

What do you think about these shoes? Do you think it’s a true representation of the classic glass slippers? It’s certainly a fairytale come true!

Flatforms are everywhere at the moment, but what are they? Think your average flat shoes with a platform giving you the height and the look of high heels minus the pain! ELLE magazine have named them as the love-it-or-loathe-it shoe.

They were named 'the shoe of 2011' but this year they are back and bigger than ever. Flatforms are like the new wedges in terms of comfort and style. The shoes have been seen on the Prada and Chanel catwalks. Superga and House of Holland have recently teamed together and brought out a whole new flatform collection for SS12. If you want to update your shoe collection, flatforms are a must-have.

As they are so comfortable they are easy to match with almost every outfit and can easily replace your high heels. With the added height and they will still make those pins look fabulous or give your jeans an upgrade.
