So what if the weather is a bit temperamental over the spring season, and it’s often unknown whether you will need an umbrella to battle the downpour or a fedora to shade your eyes. If you are anything like me, you don’t have the patience to wait for consistent fair weather to bring out your sweet summertime goods. I am aching to sport my sunny day staples of shrunken tees and gladiator sandals! Even more, I cannot wait until sunglasses are my number one fashion accessory. This means, my friends, that we cannot waste any time searching for the finest of the season. In honour of the sunny weather I hope to have for many months to come, here are my picks for best sunglasses for men. We shall begin with a classic, the Ray Ban Aviators. For an inspiring and fresh take on the standard, you can also try the Wings or the Cockpit. They are slightly different from the former, but give off the sexy pilot vibe just as well. Suitable for any face shape and fit for any occasion, these shades are devastatingly handsome. They look perfect with a weekend tee or your workday duds. Feel free to pair with some stubbly facial hair for that extra schlumpy-sexy touch! The next pair is for all of you daredevils out there. Though they are not suited for every occasion and even for most personalities, I adore these orange, chrome-effect Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2010 sunglasses. They will flatter most face shapes and they would be a fun accent to add to an otherwise bland ensemble. Or if you prefer something trendier, I say wear them with your brights and colour-clash your wardrobe. For something a tad more unusual and of-the-moment, try Karen Walker’s Helter Skelter shades. The lenses are more curvaceous than classic or sporty options. They fall just short of being circular, and remind me of a modern throwback to 1950s glamour men. With their retro-made- über-chic design and white bridge in the middle, these sunglasses are ideal for all of my fashion-loving comrades out there. Though they would work with just about anything, I would try channeling 1950s Cuba and wear them with a smart jacket and tan-coloured relaxed trousers. Rain and clouds or sun and shine, I will be donning my best summer-wear by the month’s end, mark my words. I suggest you either join me in my quest to meditate nice weather into the forecast by acting as if it’s already here, or at the least plan what you will be wearing when my prayers are answered. If The Secret has taught me anything, it’s that belief generates success. So go get your shades on! By Jamie Bona - Men’s Style Writer for A-SHU.CO.UK. |

It’s great to see that men now have the same shopping options as women. When once there was no such thing as Topman, now the high streets are lined with shops specifically for men. But with all these new fashion trends becoming increasingly popular amongst men, do women really find the new fashion-savvy man attractive? Or is a plain t-shirt and jeans all a woman needs to get her blood pumping? This Spring 2010, Bottega Veneta sent the ‘new man’ down the runway wearing a slashed-neck t-shirt, shiny shorts and a large man-bag. Gone are the days where men looked sexy in a simple v-neck top, now every man seems to feel the need to show their chest hair when they’re popping to the shop. By no means am I saying that this is an impossible look to pull off - certainly JLS seem to look appealing in these outfits - but is it really necessary to be flashing flesh at every given moment? The man-bag is another revelation into men’s fashion. Obviously men need to carry files and documents into work, but isn’t this what the brief-case was invented for? I can’t think of anything less appealing then a man walking down the street in a low-neck t-shirt carrying a holdall! Another hit amongst the fashion-savvy men is the decorative scarf! I have spent countless occasions sitting with girlfriends debating this look. Why a man feels the need to wear a tiny bit of fabric that looks creased and untidy around their necks for ‘fashion’ remains a mystery to us. There are obviously many positive effects of fashion upon men. A well turned out, groomed and looked-after man is obviously much more appealing than one who has no idea what they should be wearing, and would be more likely to appear in an episode of Gok Wans fashion fix, than the next edition of Vogue. But no matter what the designers are churning out, I can’t help but feel that women would much rather a rugged, sexy man in a pair of jeans and white t-shirt who is comfortable in their own skin, than a man who feels the need to adorn themselves with girly accessories to feel they fit in. Clearly this argument could swing both ways as there are many women in the world who would find this look attractive – but then again maybe their looking for a man who reflects their own style as well. As pastel pinks and baby blues, coffee hues and cream tones take priority on the catwalks this season, have we forgotten that it’s almost summer? Where has all the colour gone? Summer is about bold blues, fuchsia pinks, bright yellow, luminous orange, but yet it seems that this season is in need of a colour infusion! Fendi seemed to be the main culprit for this pastel take-over with their Spring/Summer runway lacking in any sort of bold colours - except black. Although their runway collection is indescribably amazing, it would have been nice to see a bit of colour lurking in the background to give spring a kick-start. There were however a few designers who knew just how to make an impact this season in bright reds and oranges: Philip Lim and Oscar de la Renta. From a tailored suit to cascades of delicate fabrics, these designers know just how to make you look sexy in red this season. Oscar de la Renta sophisticatedly teams red with gold high heeled shoes for the ultimate seductive ensemble which is sure to get you noticed. Another designer embracing colour this season is Proenza Schouler who teams bold blues and greens in tie-dye effect to create fabulous colourful ensembles. The mix or blue and green hues are perfect for spring as they can be dressed up or down depending on where you’re heading. If colour really isn’t your thing then why not just try a bright new nail polish to set off your Spring/Summer wardrobe? Nudes may look great on the catwalk but for a day at the beach colour is defiantly the way to go! By Charlotte Seabury - Fashion Writer for A-SHU.CO.UK. |
