Ladies have been borrowing from their boyfriends' closets for ages. We've taken everything from oversized jumpers to comfy tees, and even the occasional work shirt has been transformed into our evening ware. From our boy toys’ closets to the high street, designers caught on to this cross-dressing trend years ago when Katharine Hepburn broke the mould by making men’s trousers stylish. Case in point, the waistcoat is a strong trend this fall on the high street and in luxury designer brands. Not to commit the sin of the double-standard, but isn’t it a bit odd to see this same practice in reverse? Men donning women’s garb in the past was something reserved for the Ziggy Stardust personas of the 1970s and glam rock legends of the 1980s. Then came the revival of men’s skinny jeans a few years ago. This was followed by an array of man-makeup that can now be purchased at your local Boots, believe it or not. This infiltration has even moved into jewellery with the man’s brooch becoming an acceptable accessory to sport with a jacket or cardigan. I suppose the blurring of the gender fashion lines should be seen as a positive step toward equality. Men have just as much the right to wear what pleases them, regardless of supposed gender rules. I have to say, though, I’m dreading the day I see my boyfriend digging through my wardrobe in search of the perfect blouse to match his skinnies! Kate Moss has released her new seasons collection this month. The new collection features a mix of swinging 60’s style, 80’s glamour, and great prints and knits to keeps us cosy in those cold months ahead. A new season always ends up meaning more cost to get this seasons looks covered, so to help curb the purse busting price tags check out our inspired range of bags, shoes and accessories we offer at A-SHU, giving us one less thing to break the bank for. Muted print vest’s, which are long and loose are always good for hiding a multitude of sins, and can be worn as both a vest on top of jeans or a dress teamed with leggings, effectively giving you two looks for the price of one! The overall tone of the collection is rock grunge for girls, by this I mean it features the dark colours, hints of leather, and muted sequins along with some girlie prints which have been blurred or pixilated for a further edge. Kate Moss, as expected has modelled the collection herself which enforces the main selling point, that by buying these products you are buying a piece of Kate and into her lifestyle. Personally I quite like this seasons collection from what I’ve seen of it, but I feel its key to develop your own trend, concurrent to this I would advise to get a few pieces you like and mix it up a bit, either with your old favourite pieces or pieces from the many great things that we offer here at A-SHU this Autumn. Shop now for fab key pieces to jazz up your Autumn look, add a bit of grunge to your style with some of our great boots. By Emma Evans - Celebrity Fashion Writer For A-SHU.CO.UK. |

No this isn't a revival of 80's fashion, where rave, spandex and sweatbands are a must, but is in fact a blast from the past with crop tops making a prominent comeback! All the upcoming rage at the moment, cropped tops are back and with a vengeance! With the likes of Cheryl Cole and Lindsey Lohan sporting the trend, the phase is most definitely catching on and you can really play and work with the look! Team tight sleeved versions with tulip miniskirts revealing a bit of stomach flesh a la Mrs Cole but save this for the brave and more formal or dressy occasions! For the rest of us team looser versions with long tight vests tops underneath and leggings or jeans like Kate Bosworth; by teaming with a fitted bottom half the top adds balance to your look and allows you to reveal a little figure! They also look great peeping over the top of a pair of high waisted shorts! Play with patterns and materials, currently there are some great lace sleeveless versions on the catwalk and on the high street;(another popular trend this season); you really can update your wardrobe and experiment with different accessories to adapt your look like brooches or scarves. The way forward really is to crop your tops! To get the look nailed try teaming some of our statement necklaces with a plain crop for a sophisticated and cool look such as our Long Tribal Pearl Large Pendant Necklace at £4.99 or some long dangly earrings like our Silver Tear-Drop Earrings at £3.49. When you think of sailor inspired fashion, ‘stripes’ automatically and obviously come to mind. Stripes keep coming back for the reason that depending on the direction of the stripes, different illusions can be created regarding body image. The rules; vertical stripes are slimming on any size, horizontal accentuates waists for smaller sizes, and diagonal stripes (depending on where they are placed) can create many variations of body con illusions. This season though celebrities have taken the sailor fashion trend to a whole other level, some even ditching the stripes for detailing such as nautical buttons, and ropes. Fist up, this lady should be crowned the queen of the ship, working many great sailor looks since her single ‘Candy Man’ - of course its Christina Aguilera. I’ve picked out one look in particular which she wore onstage during a performance. This looks shows how an everyday outfit can be transformed into an outfit fit for the seas. Christina wears a pair of black high waisted straight leg trousers, with a v-necked white shirt, sounds simple right? But the detailing of gold buttons running parallel down the front of the trousers, and gold piping down each side seam of the trousers has such a huge impact on the overall look. Paris Hilton has also been anchored away with this trend, and is seen wearing a navy mini dress, which has a gold button and chain neckline giving it a place on our great sailor looks. If like Katy Perry and Alexander Burke though your still attached to the old classic of stripes go for a striped dress or turn an oversized striped jumper into a dress teamed with navy or black leggings. The sailor look can also be created by wearing certain colours; play around with white, red and navy to continually change you look but stay on trend.
